Our History and Vision

JCEC (Japan Christian Education Center) was founded in May 1967 by theologians, educators, pastors, and business leaders with the aim of conducting academic research and practical activities in education and related fields based on Christian principles. Initially, it was carried by people specializing in school education, but with the economic development of Japanese society and the deepening of cultural exchange with the international community, necessity for broadening the scope of research beyond school education became recognized so that researchers from various disciplines and people from the business world joined the board of directors and councilors. Consequently, it transitioned to an open research group of more practical contents with extensive cultural contacts, ultimately becoming the adult education forum we see today. Particularly, as deeply considering that cult groups are corroding politics and people’s living welfare, our emphasis will be on public theology as a theology of hope fostering human rights, freedom, and neighborly love within civil society and being able to address pressing concerns such as climate change, nuclear contamination, the energy crisis, gender equality, and children’s welfare.

Greeting

Our center is a place of adult education that promotes cultural activities for the formation of a Japanese civil society based on Christian principles.
The ideal principles of freedom, peace, personal integrity, human rights and neighborly love, which form the foundation of the democratic society based on the Japanese Constitution of post-war Japan, are based on the principles of the Christian Bible.
They are filled with the world of common grace that speaks to all humanity, and the realization of these ideals has become a historical challenge for humanity spanning a century.
We hope that our center will be used and utilized to help both foster Japanese civil society and develop public theology, in the light of the Bible.
